Well, what a fantastic day. Russell and Sue, along with their hard working helpers had put up signs, trimmed lawns, prepared tables and chairs, organised drinks, and everything else to make the day very special.

We had 39 members cars attend, all parked on the lawn in front of the imposing Tudor building.

Everyone soon sorted themselves into various groups, sharing tables for picnics and catching up with gossip .

Russell had kindly organised entertainment, in the form of 'Elvis’ and what an entertainer he was. Not only a great impersonator, but very comical too.

Ron Gray, not in the best of health at the moment, decided to stay near the car and arrange his chair and picnic table so that he could see the entertainment at the house, about 25 meters away. After a while 'Elvis' spotted him and encouraged everyone to buy a raffle ticket from him. 'Elvis’ then approached Ron’s picnic table, whilst making a running commentary on his microphone about the poor standard of raffle prizes on his table, including some soft Pringles!

'Elvis'  then settled on Tony Gray, teasing and winking, but I thought the best was when he included Russell’s cousin, Alan. They shared the same microphone. Alan had a very good Elvis voice, and knew all the songs. When they did a song on the lawn with coordinated actions, I assumed they had rehearsed, but afterwards I spoke to Alan, and he assured me they had never met before. Brilliant !

The time had passed so quickly, it was now time for announcing the results of the Tom Telfer Award for 1965 to 1998 cars. Once again Richard Haskings and Les Barker had the difficult task of picking the best three cars from the high standard present and came to the following conclusion.

1      Alan Eglin    Silver Spirit 111

2      Mick Sherwin   Silver Shadow  1

3      David Whitehead   Silver Shadow  1

Our Chairman Mr. David Towers duly presented the Trophy and rosettes, and thanked all who competed. He then presented Champagne and flowers to Russell and Sue as a small token of our appreciation for all their hard work and generosity. A great memorable day,
